Dr. Robert Hemmings is a McGill University-trained obstetrician-gynecologist with a subspecialty in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI). He also has a master’s degree in physiology.
He is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology (Ob-Gyn) at McGill University and Montreal University.
Dr. Hemmings is both a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPS) and certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ob-Gyn and REI.
He is the Chief of Ob-Gyn of the Montreal West Island University affiliated group of hospitals (CIUSS), currently the largest obstetrical unit in Quebec.
He is a member of the REI committee of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.
He is president of the perinatal committee for the College of Physicians of Quebec. He is a member of the College’s REI committee as well.
He is a member of the RCPS REI committee and is an examiner for its REI subspecialty. He has been an examiner for the RCPS Ob-Gyn boards for 15 years.
He is a member of McGill University’s Ob-Gyn Executive Committee.
After practicing for 20 years at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Dr. Hemmings joined St. Mary’s Hospital where he has been chief of Ob-Gyn for 11 years.
Dr. Hemmings started performing in vitro fertilization (IVF) 25 years ago, first at Procrea, then at the McGill Reproductive Centre, before founding the OVO Fertility Centre 13 years ago. OVO Fertility Center is one of the largest Canadian IVF centres and one of the largest clinics in North America.
Dr. Hemmings has authored over 120 abstracts and publications. His research interests include IVF improvement and outcomes.
Dr. Hemmings is actively involved in teaching IVF fellows (Montreal University), minimally-invasive surgery (MIS) fellows (McGill), Ob-Gyn residents, family medicine residents and medical students.
He is involved in the College of Physicians of Quebec as an evaluator and has co-authored guidelines for the practice of REI in Quebec.
